Palo santo, or pau santo, is the wood taken from the Bursera Graveolens tree, native to Peru. It has woody and resinous notes, with a sweet aroma of pine cone, mint and lemon, being used as natural incense, cologne water and smudging. In various cultures, palo santo also has a spiritual use, foretelling good luck, healing and protection.
